Pokémon Pitch Black UK: ETB, booster bundle and RRP

· 6 min read

Pitch Black is the fifth main expansion of the Mega Evolution series and the English version of the Japanese set Abyss Eye. It released on 17 July 2026. This page covers what is in the set, the Zarude Elite Trainer Box, the £24.99 booster bundle, the Mega Darkrai ex chase cards and how to buy it at UK retail.

What Pitch Black is

Mega Evolution: Pitch Black is based on the Mega Dimension DLC for Pokémon Legends: Z-A. It is a compact set: 84 cards in the main set plus 36 secret rares, 120 in total.

The Japanese source set, Abyss Eye, released in Japan on 22 May 2026, eight weeks before the English version. If you have seen Abyss Eye cards online, these are the same cards with English text. Our Abyss Eye page covers that side of it.

The mascot is Mega Darkrai ex, and both of the top chase cards are versions of it.

The product line

Pitch Black has a short product list. This is the whole range on the pokemon.com product gallery:

  • Booster display box. Packs only, sold to shops as a display.
  • Booster bundle. A small box of packs and nothing else.
  • Elite Trainer Box. Packs, sleeves and accessories, with a full-art Zarude promo that only comes in this box.
  • Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box. Eleven packs and two Zarude promos. Sold only through Pokémon Center UK.
  • Build & Battle Box. The prerelease kit, also sold at retail.

No premium collection, pin collection or poster collection.

The sensible buy

The booster bundle at £24.99 is the cheapest all-pack item, and for most people it is the right one. You get packs and nothing you will not use.

The Elite Trainer Box at £49.99 is the sealed pick. The full-art Zarude promo is the exclusive part, and it is what the box is worth after the set leaves print. Our ETB piece covers what an ETB is actually worth while it is in print, which is less than the shelf suggests.

The Pokémon Center ETB is the collector version: eleven packs, two Zarude promos, and a supply that never reaches a normal shop. It is also the hardest item in the range to buy, because it sits behind the store's queue on busy days. Our guide to the Pokémon Center UK queue covers that.

Chase cards

Three cards lead the secondary market:

  1. Mega Darkrai ex special illustration rare, 116/84.
  2. Mega Darkrai ex Mega hyper rare, 120/84, the last card in the set by number.
  3. Morpeko ex special illustration rare, 117/84.

Prices move daily, so we do not quote them. The shape is the same as Chaos Rising: two of the three top cards are the same Pokémon, so the set's value rests on one character. Which Pokémon sets hold value explains why that matters.

UK retail and RRP

Smyths lists the Pitch Black Elite Trainer Box at £49.99 and the booster bundle at £24.99. Those are the two verified UK prices for this set, and they match the standard pattern across the Mega Evolution series. Argos prices the series' ETBs at £50.00.

Pokémon Center UK lists the Pitch Black Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box. We did not capture its price. Pokémon Center UK ETBs range from £49.99 to £64.99 depending on the product, and the official-store version sits above the standard box.

Where to look: Smyths, Argos, Tesco, Amazon UK for the Amazon-sold listing only, and Pokémon Center UK for the stamped ETB.

Sealed versus open

Pitch Black is a main expansion released in July 2026. It is in print, and it will stay in print for as long as demand justifies it. While that is true, sealed product has a ceiling at retail price.

That makes sealed Pitch Black stock, not an asset. Buy at RRP, sell into the gaps if that is your model, and do not hold it as an investment while the print run is open. Sealed versus singles covers the other side of that decision.

If you open it, the 36-card secret pool is small by modern standards, which helps. Sell what you pull through how to sell Pokémon cards in the UK. If you buy the Mega Darkrai ex as a single, read how to spot fake Pokémon cards first, because top cards from current sets are the ones that get copied.

How to buy at retail now

  • Accounts ready at Smyths, Argos, Tesco and Amazon UK, with card and address saved.
  • Bookmark the ETB and bundle pages at each retailer.
  • One order per retailer. Limits are enforced after the fact, and duplicates get cancelled.
  • Check the shelf. Large stores get stock that never appears online.
  • Get an alert. Pokémon restock alerts in the UK explains what a useful one looks like.

The bundle at £24.99 is the item to hold out for. It is the cheapest way into the set and the one least worth paying a premium on.

Common questions

When did Pitch Black come out in the UK?

Mega Evolution: Pitch Black released in English on 17 July 2026, including the UK. It is the English version of the Japanese set Abyss Eye, which released in Japan on 22 May 2026. As a main expansion it stays in print, so stock keeps arriving.

Is Pitch Black the same set as Abyss Eye?

Yes. Abyss Eye is the Japanese name and Pitch Black is the English release of the same cards. The English set has 84 main cards and 36 secret rares, 120 in total. The artwork is the same; the text is English.

How much is the Pitch Black booster bundle in the UK?

Smyths lists the Pitch Black booster bundle at £24.99 and the Elite Trainer Box at £49.99. Those are the retail prices. A listing far above them is a reseller, and the set is in print, so there is no reason to pay it.

What promo comes in the Pitch Black ETB?

The standard Elite Trainer Box includes a full-art Zarude promo. The Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box has eleven packs and two Zarude promos and is sold only through Pokémon Center UK, which sells it through its virtual queue on busy releases.

What are the chase cards in Pitch Black?

The three cards that lead the secondary market are the Mega Darkrai ex special illustration rare numbered 116/84, the Mega Darkrai ex Mega hyper rare numbered 120/84 and the Morpeko ex special illustration rare numbered 117/84. Prices change daily, so check a current guide.

Where this fits

Pitch Black follows Chaos Rising and Perfect Order in the 2026 run, and the 30th Celebration set comes next. The Japanese side is on our Abyss Eye page.
