Ascended Heroes UK: ETB, restocks and chase cards
Ascended Heroes is the largest English Pokémon set ever printed. It reached UK shelves on 30 January 2026 and has been hard to find at RRP since. This page covers what the set is, which products make sense to buy, the cards that carry the value, and how to get it at retail rather than from a reseller.
What Ascended Heroes is
Mega Evolution: Ascended Heroes is part of the Mega Evolution series, the block that replaced Scarlet & Violet in autumn 2025. It is themed on Pokémon Legends: Z-A, so the Kalos cast and Mega Evolutions run through the whole set.
It is big. The main set has 217 cards, with 78 secret rares on top, for 295 in total. No English expansion before it has been larger. Three things are new:
- A new rarity, the Mega attack rare.
- The J regulation mark, which appears here for the first time.
- Two different Pikachu ex special illustration rares in the same set.
The product line
The English range:
- Booster box. The display of packs sold to shops. The cheapest way to open a lot of the set.
- Booster bundle. A small box of packs with nothing else in it.
- Elite Trainer Box. Packs, sleeves, dice and a full-art N's Zekrom promo that only comes in this box.
- Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box. The official-store version with its own stamped promos. Only sold through Pokémon Center UK.
- Erika's and Larry's collections. Trainer-themed boxes with packs and a promo.
- Pin collections and tech sticker collections. Smaller boxes aimed at the shelf-edge buyer.
- Premium Poster Collection. Comes with a Mega Lucario ex or a Mega Gardevoir ex promo.
The sensible buy
Decide what you want out of the set first.
If you want to open packs, the booster bundle gives you packs and nothing you will not use. A booster box does the same at scale, but you need to want that many packs.
If you want one item to keep sealed, the Elite Trainer Box is the standard choice, and the N's Zekrom promo is the part that ages. Read our ETB piece before you buy several, because an in-print ETB has a ceiling at retail price.
If you collect rather than resell, the Pokémon Center ETB is the one with a fixed supply, because the stamped promos never reach a general-release box. It is also the hardest of the lot to buy.
Chase cards
Ascended Heroes has three cards that lead the secondary market:
- Mega Gengar ex special illustration rare.
- Pikachu ex special illustration rare, 276/217.
- Mega Dragonite ex special illustration rare, 290/217.
Prices on all three move daily, so we do not quote them. What matters is the shape. With 78 secret rares, most secret slots in a booster box are not one of these three. If you open product hoping for one specific card, the maths is against you in a set this large.
UK retail and RRP
Argos lists the Ascended Heroes Elite Trainer Box. We did not capture its price. The other Mega Evolution ETBs at Argos are £50.00, and Smyths lists Mega Evolution ETBs at £49.99, so that is the bracket to expect. Check the page before you pay.
The set is stocked by the usual UK chains: Smyths, Argos, Tesco, Amazon UK and Pokémon Center UK. Smyths and Argos are the two most people watch. Tesco sells it in store and online. Amazon UK mixes Amazon-sold stock with third-party listings at resale prices, so only buy the Amazon-sold listing.
Sealed versus open
Ascended Heroes is a main expansion released in January 2026. It is in print, and main expansions are printed to demand. While that is true, sealed product has a hard ceiling at retail price, because the next restock resets it.
That does not make sealed a bad buy. It makes it stock, not an asset. Buy at RRP, sell into the gap when the shelves are empty, and do not hold it as an investment while it is still on the print schedule. Which Pokémon sets hold value covers why, and sealed versus singles covers the alternative.

How to buy at retail now
What you can control:
- Have accounts ready at Smyths, Argos, Tesco and Amazon UK, with address and card saved.
- Know the product page you want at each retailer before it is in stock.
- Respect limits. Most retailers cap Pokémon per order. A second order often gets cancelled.
- Check in store. Physical shelves get stock that never shows online, and staff will often tell you what came in.

Do not buy from a reseller at double RRP because the shelves are empty this week. The set is in print. The shelves refill.
